Dadsuren traditional music project

I didn't know this, but there is a long song school in Dundgovi aimag. This first-ever rural music school for the long song tradition in Mongolia was established in September 2004. Housed at the Cultural Center of Deren soum in Dundgovi aimag in southern Mongolia, the school is located approximately six hours south of Ulaanbaatar. The school was established in memory of the late long song master Norovbanzad who is remembered as one of Mongolia’s greatest long song singers, and who was from Dundgovi aimag. Today, students ranging in age from 6-65 years study at the facility, which is open to Mongolian and foreign students alike wishing to learn the art of long song, its cultural value, and historical significance. Master singer Dadsuren Garov is the head instructor at the modest yet significant school, open on a seasonal basis so as to coincide with the pastoral lifestyle of many of its pupils.
