Festival of choral art

A piece of news about a French festival of choral art (in French). Almost in the end you can see Boerte's Munkh-Erdene and a female throat singer who I think belongs to Khukh Mongol.

Mongolian National Song and Dance Academic Ensemble

When visiting UB, the Mongolian National Song and Dance Academic Ensemble's show is a must see. It offers a great overview of the Mongolian songs and dances. I remember seeing their show a couple of years ago, the khoomii singer was throat singing O Sole mio. I guess, foreign tourists find it quite entertaining, since it's a very well-known song. But, why O Sole mio? It seems like most of the khoomii singers sing this song at one point of their carrers. Okay, I digress.... Anyway, they have great artists and it's a pity missing it if you visit the country.

Video shot by Imagination Lighthouse
There is a female khoomii singer in the ensemble. I don't know who she is. She is good!

Click here and scroll down to view a video of a long song called Khoyor bor by Tsogtsaikhan. Very beautiful.

Khoomii at the Many Moons festival

I couldn't catch the singer's name. He's excellent.... The woman introducing the khoomii singer says that throat singing is done thanks to the men's adam's apple, well, hmmmmm, that's not true. That has nothing to do with the ability to khoomii. I can khoomii a little bit (not as good as this guy, but I can :-P) and last time I checked , I was a girl, so I don't have an adam's apple (otherwise it would be a bit weird). Maybe that has to do with the superstition that a woman is not supposed to khoomii because she will be infertile if she does. Well, I say, pfffffffff, it's pure nonsense! Women from around the world that throat sing: Cheinesh Baytuchkina from the Altai Republic, fabulous and wonderful Sanikho Namtchilak from Tuva, Usukhjargal Purevsuren from Khukh Mongol, Alimaa, the girls from Tyva Kyzy, the Inuit singer Tanya Tagaq Gillis, Shonchulai Choodu from Tuva, etc.

Alimaa, khoomii

I am always complaining that I can't find any videos of female khoomii singers, but found one here:

The first time I saw it, for some reason, I'd thought it was a recording of a male singer with some woman's video. It turned out, it was her the one who was singing. Her khoomii isn't perfect at times, but she's making an effort. I was impressed by her kharkhiraa. There's another one here

Female khoomii

Finally found a video of a female khoomii singer. No info on the singer or group. Maybe the singer from Khukh Mongol?

Khukh Mongol

I haven't found many videos of this group, the ones I've seen were recorded while they were performing in the street. What caught my attention is that they have one of the few female Mongolian khoomii singers, miss Purevsuren Usughjargal. I would be curious to see her perform, but so far , I haven't found any videos of her.
Their website (in German), info here too
